When Travelling an Old Road After Dark

Poem and Photo by Seth Dombach (Kloipy)

When travelling an old road after dark

My thoughts are best described as introverted

There is something in the quiet that changes you

With only enough light to see just far enough ahead

And only the faintest glow behind

The future and past disappear and only the present remains

The road may be familiar but in the darkness seems wild; unbridled

Should you pass another, it only comes in a blinding second

And then it is gone and you are alone once again

With nothing but the lined path before you

You may feel compelled to pull over

To park on the grass beside the tree-lined pavement

The cool wind of the night is as refreshing and transformative

As the most brilliant ephiphany

There is comfort in the dark

  1. Nice one… great picture as well. It really is like the road doesn’t exist in front or behind, not until the light lands on it; you could drive off into outer space at any second if the light fails…

I once wrote a song called Comfort In The Dark. True.

  2. “The future and past disappear and only the present remains” This was stunning bro! Great job. You have some talent for prose, brother! 🙂
